I wanna be like Mike…

Apparently Michael Moore’s new film, “Fahrenheit 9/11″ has become the first documentary in something like 50 years to win the Top Prize — the Palme d’Or. Other awards that it recieved were an apparently record breaking 20 minute standing ovation and the International Federation of Film Critics Award.

All this praise, and Disney is still trying to block distribution because it criticizes Bush and may jeopardize Disney’s tax breaks in Florida, where Jed Bush is the governor. It’s pretty sad that certain very wealthy powerhouses could try and succeed at controlling the flow of information and censor criticizim because of their bottom dollar. The more I learn, the more truly sad the state of affairs here makes me.

MM himself puts it best:
> I fully expect the right wing and the Republican Party to come at me and this film with everything they’ve got. They will try, as they have unsuccessfully in the past, to attack me personally because they cannot win the debate on the issues the film raises—namely, that they are a pack of liars and the American people are on to them. And, if the early screenings of “Fahrenheit 9/11” are any indication, those who see this movie will never view the Bush administration in the same way again.

Isn’t it great that he has to expect personal attacks for criticism? I guess thats just the way it goes.

On a semi-related note, apparently Bush is coming to Nashville to drum up $$$ and support. According to Matt over at Nashville Peace Justice Bush is having a little shindig here that you too can attend for only $25,000 per couple.

So if you want to get your protest on, check out Nashville Peace Justice’s website.
