I liked Eminem before, I like him more now.

For those of you who haven’t heard or seen Eminem’s new video “Mosh”, you need to. You can get it from the gnn website [here](http://www.gnn.tv/content/eminem_mosh.html). This video is powerful, to say the least. I am going to post some of the lyrics here that I find most intriguing.
>Don’t matter what color, all that matters is we gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause, no matter the weather
If it rains let it rain, yea the wetter the better
They ain’t gonna stop us, they can’t, we’re stronger now more then ever,
They tell us no we say yea, they tell us stop we say go,
Rebel with a rebel yell, raise hell we gonna let em know
Stomp, push up, mush, f*ck Bush, until they bring our troops home
>Imagine it pouring, it’s raining down on us,
Mosh pits outside the oval office
Someone’s trying to tell us something, maybe this is God just saying
we’re responsible for this monster, this coward, that we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head nodding,
How could we allow something like this, Without pumping our fist
Now this is our, final hour
> Maybe we can reach Al Quaida through my speech
Let the President answer on high anarchy
Strap him with AK-47, let him go
Fight his own war, let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our soil
***No more psychological warfare to trick us to think that we ain’t loyal***
If we don’t serve our own country we’re patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes, it’s all lies, the stars and stripes
They’ve been swiped, washed out and wiped,
And Replaced with his own face, mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you’ll know why, because I told you to fight
And the closing statement is possibly one of the most pointed things I’ve heard in any song in some time.
> ***In these closing statements, if they should argue, let us beg to differ,
as we set aside our differences, and assemble our own army,
to disarm this weapon of mass destruction that we call our president,
for the present, and mosh for the future of our next generation,
to speak and be heard, Mr. President, Mr. Senator***
Wow.
PS. If you can’t get the video from the above link for some reason, I can send it to you.
great lyrics ..
and riding the line between on- and off-topic, we have http://www.onion.com/news/index.php?issue=4043&n=1 , which is amusing.
That article is amusing. The onion is one of those things that I should read with regularity, but don’t. Instead I rely on people to keep me informed of when there is something of particular value on their site.
rock on. what are you doing election night, kobe?
He’d better be here. Or I will be sad.
Also party here Saturday night. Be here or be square.
hip pop w/a real message…it’s been so long
Ministry/My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult concert November 2 … woot
>Also party here Saturday night. Be here or be square.
I’ll be square. sort of.. I’m going to see BT in Chicago this weekend!! WOO!
I think this video is biased. Its clearly not fair and balanced… I mean, we only hear from one side here!
lol I’m just kidding. At this point, after hearing so many idiots falling for the Bush lies, I almost think America deserves to wind up with him again. I almost want to vote for Bush to hasten the coming apocolypse. If Kerry doesn’t win I’m moving to Europe.
> If Kerry doesn’t win I’m moving to Europe.
You’ll be back within three months…
And now, for something on-topic…
The imagery in the video is awesome. I love the fact that he sends the message that we’re all pissed off, but we need to channel that anger, rage, and dissapointment toward the appropriate avenue…voting. Being heard is something to fight for. Most of the people in this country are apathetic toward their right to vote. Now, more than ever, voting is very important. There is some seriously bad voodoo going on right now. Things have to change. I’m glad that eminem is out there making people think. That’s always a good thing.
I’m curious. Maybe someone who knows something about the electoral process can help me.
Does it matter if a candidate wins a state by 2 votes or 10,000? Because if EVERYBODY who is pissed at Bush lives in CA or IL or NY, and it doesn’t matter how many votes Kerry wins a state by, I think we are teh screwed.
Dan,
The simple answer is, no, it doesn’t matter if it’s 2 or 10,000, the electoral votes go to that candidate with the most votes.
The long answer is more complex. First, if it’s *real* close, like FL in 2000, expect legal challenges to fly like crazy. Both sides are lawyering up like you wouldn’t believe. If a state comes down to a few hundred or couple thousand votes, we’re gonna see the shit hit the fan.
Then, technically, the electors are not perfectly obligated to follow the popular vote. If it’s *really* close, and the elector thinks that they have a really good reason that the slight margin is on the wrong side or doesn’t accurately represent the interests of the state, they can defect - there’s a chance, for example, that one of the electors in WV will not vote for Bush, regardless of the popular vote, though he probably won’t vote for kerry either. This is really rare, but not impossible.
Also, a handful of states (ME is one, and CO has a ballot initiative for this election to do so) have chosen to split their electoral votes on the basis of the popular vote. Thus, it’s possible that Kerry could get 3 from ME and Bush get 1 (though the latest polling shows that as increasingly unlikey) and CO (if the measure passes, which is doubtful) could go 5/4 Bush/Kerry or something.
You’ve hit upon a critical debate in electoral politics, which is that the Electoral College, while leveling out the playing field for small states, also marginalizes states with strong polarizations. Well over half the US map is totally out of play in this (and most) election(s). This is the source of all the “swing state” and “battleground” state chatter, of course, and it’s why the only people that matter much are the ones in WI, OH, FL, IA, PA, MN, MI and a couple of others. These are the ones that are *real* close and will end up deciding the final EC tally. Florida, with 27 EV’s is again a critical state, which will decide the election if Kerry wins it. Currently, the big question mark seems to be Wisconsin. OH, PA, MI and MN are looking pretty blue, where FL, IA, and MO are trending red. Currently WI is trending blue, but it’s insanely tight. If the picture as it is holds, Kerry wins 272/266 (barring any strange elector defections). If Kerry takes FL, it becomes a 299/239 smack in the face.
Check out http://slate.com/id/2108751/ and http://electoral-vote.com for my sources on all the current data.
Incidentally, overall popular vote will make a difference in the event of legal challenges, since popular opinion is relevant to the intent, regardless of actual outcome. Not, much, but a little.
Also, if your math skills are quick you’ll realize that the EV’s add up to an even number — there are a number of scenarios, though unlikely, that will lead to a tie in the electoral college 269/269.
If this happens, the House votes on the president, essentially, and given the current breakdown in the House, you can call that a Bush victory.
Without question, this will be one to watch down to the wire.
