Thats the way it bounces.

So Kerry lost. I feel bad about it, but when I expressed this feeling to one of my elders here, he had some words of encouragement for me. He told me to think of America as a giant ship always moving forward. Right now its swaying to one side pretty heavily, but soon people will see that it is off course and make corrections to set her back on course.

Maybe its optimism, but I like this line of thought. Right now I need something to keep me sane.

I don’t like the giant ship analogy. Is he trying to say we’re like the Titanic? What about pirates, and scurvey and shit?? Abandon ship!

    hence my rationale my friend…

America was founded by religious zealots and political exiles. It’s only fitting that we yo-yo between bouts of progressively liberalistic idealism (our founding fathers who were, by all rights, progressive extremists and rebels), and religiously inspired conservativism (anyone remember the revitalist period in the 19th century or the Prohibition Era?). With the separation of church and state, people have yet to come to terms with the fallacies of organised religion. They still think God’s our saviour, and Jesus will lead us on the path of righteousness. Within these beliefs lie the vast majority of Americans.

America is a retardedly romantic nation whose ideologies and sentiments are rooted in fairy tales and lore as much as they are in economics and hard science.

Where else but America is the notion of the rough n rugged cowboy comingled with that of the pious Puritan? We’re a bastard peoples with so many cultures from so many directions we have a hard time figuring out which way to go. So we look towards our political and religious “leaders.”

We’re also a very greedy nation. Sure, we have public representatives and servants. Who make 6 figures a year? We pay for everything when it comes to our leaders. We pay for galas and int’l flights to far and distant lands in accomodations and settings 90%+ of Americans can only dream of.

Kerry’s a public servant. A decent one. He probably would’ve done as good a job as any *one* man can do as the President of the United States. But in all honesty, the US presidency is more like steering a car w/the breaks cut. You’re at the wheel of a giant economic military machine that could wipe anyone out of existence by the press of a few buttons (fiscally and literally). If our economy crashed, the whole world would implode financially.

Bush and Kerry are more alike than different. They’re both devout to their respective religions. They come from homes and circles of privilege. They have about as much in common with the average American as you or I do with the refugees in Darfur. As politics have *ALWAYS* been, it’s the aristocracy controlling those below. For better. Or worse.

Yes, Bush has won again. The GOP has a nice majority in the House and Senate. In the grand scheme of nations and their histories, 8 years is a blink of the eye. As citizens, if not directly involved in governance and legislation, we can only sit back and watch patiently, until the point of breaking. At which time we will champion those who can, and will, make changes for the better, or take matters into our own hands and overthrow the tyrants that opress us.

An election w/a margin of victory of less than 5% means we’re no where near that brink of collapse.

So relax. Dubya will be gone before you know it. Hopefully it’ll give the dems the chance to really wow the nation.

Ok, so not a soul who checks this site knows who I am, but if Aaron looks into the depths of his memory to the oh-so (actually, not-so) glorious days of high school, he’ll remember who I am. Yes Aaron, I am stalking you. But only for the past couple of weeks. I was wondering what people have been up to and typed your name into google and this website popped up. But don’t worry, that’s the extent of my stalking.

Anyways, as I am extremely pissed about the election and don’t have an online forum to vent on, I thought that I’d see what Aaron has to say. I wasn’t going to write anything, but after reading what atx115 had to say, I had to respond.

Relax? You say relax? How can we relax when at least two Supreme Court Justices will be appointed by Bush? How can I relax knowing that the Republicans desperately want to add an amendment, in fact the only type that bans a basic right, that makes it illegal for gay marriages? How can I relax when Roe Vs Wade may be reversed? How can I relax when the Alaskan Wildlife Preserve may become a giant oil field? How can I relax when the white house doesn’t even acknowledge that global warming exists? Change doesn’t occur because people sit around and wait for it to happen. Change happens only when people voice their opinions and work to do something about it. That’s how our country works, and damned if I, or any of you, plan to sit around and “wait” until Bush fucks up. He already has. And if us women didn’t campaign to get our voting rights, I’m pretty sure that the white, old male aristocrats would have voluntarily given us the right to vote. And do you think that the US would have even come into existence if the British colonists waited around until England “let” them become a separate nation. Hell no. Now, I know I’m making a few streches here, but we’re all damned if you think that sitting back and waiting for change will actually help this nation.

Yeah, there’s more than enough things that I hate about the United States, but I also love it because we’re able to voice our opinions and actually make a difference. And so if we don’t do that, we’re all just stuck here hating all those things that are aweful about this country. I’d rather voice my opinion.

    Peace

Aaron, big pimp! The only person that has ever stalked me is my old gym teacher. He’s not a bad guy.
